Site
Advertising
Inasmuch as it’s possible to notice the absence of something, you might have remarked upon the lack of ads on Pocketmint.
This is not, I assure, you, due to a lack of offers. The personal finance space is apparently lucrative and even with a smallish blog like Pocketmint I get a lot of advertising requests. The problem is that they’re for products which I consider to be harmful and which go against all the reasons I’m writing here in the first place. Same is true for things like AdWords; I tried it once and the space filled up with some really questionable stuff. So I took them all off again.
I’m not going to kid you — I wouldn’t mind earning some income from my work here. I do spend a lot of time crafting these articles, and I would love it if someday that helped support my family. But I decided a long time ago that upholding my ethics is more important than making money.
So I’m not saying categorically that there will never be any paid advertising on Pocketmint, but I can promise you that if I do put up an ad, it will be for a product or service that I have personally vetted and consider to be in the best interest of my readers.
If you’re an advertiser intending to contact me, here’s a tip: convince me that what you’re selling is in line with the values of this site.
And until that particular advertising unicorn appears, the rest of you can enjoy the ad-free experience!
Guest Posts
I’ve been receiving a lot of offers to write ‘guest posts’ that are really just thinly-veiled advertisements for a financial product. The answer to that sort of proposal is and will always be ‘No’. Please stop asking; it only wastes your time and mine.
However, if you are an individual (as in, not a company shill) with your own personal finance blog and you would like to write a post for Pocketmint, I would be happy to consider it. Feel free to drop me an email with your request.
